Buncombe Street United Methodist Church
Greenville Methodist Church, the mother church of Buncombe Street Methodist Church, was erected in 1836. In 1832 Vardry McBee had granted the land located at the southwestern corner of Church and East Coffee Streets. After thirty-nine years, necessity mandated a larger facility and the construction of the Buncombe Street church in 1872. It was formally dedicated as Buncombe Street Methodist Church on February 9, 1873, and is known as Buncombe Street United Methodist Church today.

Carpenter Brothers Drug Store
This Greenville landmark located on South Main Street was established in 1883. The store has been in this location since the early 1920's and the charm of an old-fashioned soda fountain mixed with the original mahogany fixtures makes this historical location a place to visit.

Christ Church, Episcopal
In 1825, Vardry McBee, the "Father of Greenville", deeded land for the original church which was first used for worship in 1826. This larger Gothic brick structure with brick tower 130 feet high was completed in 1854.

Falls Cottage
Built in 1894, Falls Cottage was restored from ruin in 1976 by Carolina Foothills Garden Club in partnership with the city as a gateway to Reedy River Falls Historic Park. It houses a restaurant and an art gallery.

Greenville High School
Greenville Senior High School (1938) had a commanding presence atop the hill above Vardry Street. Set on the former site of H.C. Markley's home, which had become Mary Cleveland Elementary School in the 1920's, the WPA-built high school was relocated from its site on "Prospect Hill". The three-story, square, yellow brick building with the center courtyard was designed by J.E. Sirrine Co.

Parker High School
In 1924 Parker High School was built. In addition to the basic subjects, the new idea of "learning by doing" was adopted, and educational experiences were planned around the vocational interests of the community. The last graduating class was 1985.

The Poinsett Club
The Poinsett Club was named for the SC Statesman, Joel R. Poinsett. Among many other titles, Mr. Poinsett held the position of Minister to Mexico. While in Mexico, he found a brilliant red plant, the now famous Christmas Poinsettia, which he brought back to SC. This former home was built in 1904 by Mr. Lewis Parker, and after WW1, it was the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Graham. Prior to its purchase by The Poinsett Club, it was the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Brawley. In 1926 the original Poinsett Club moved from the Coxe home on Main Street to the Marshall house on West Washington St. Its present address is 807 East Washington Street.

Poinsett Hotel
Built on the site of the demolished Mansion House and named for Joel R. Poinsett, this 100-room hotel was opened in 1925. Later, an addition to the rear doubled the number of rooms.

Women's Club (Beattie House)
The Beattie House is the meeting place of the Greenville Women's Club. This stately mansion was built in 1834 by Fountain Fox Beattie for his bride, Emily. Later Beattie generations added two wings and extensive landscaping: the house and grounds became known as "The Arboretum." The house was moved from its original Church Street location and is now located at 8 Bennett Street. The Beattie House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Old Textile Hall
Textile manufacturing began in Greenville ca. 1820. In 1915 the first Southern Textile Exposition was held in Greenville. Built in 1917, this building served the Southern Textile Exposition and various functions before being demolished in 1994.

Poinsett Bridge
Built in 1820, Mr. Joel Poinsett, Director of South Carolina Public Works, designed this still-standing bridge which was part of the main road between Greenville, S.C. and Asheville, N.C. Mr. Poinsett introduced the poinsettia plant to the United States.
